About Heather A. McCarthy
Heather A. McCarthy has spent more than 25 years living and serving in Northwest Indiana, building a career grounded in respect for the law and commitment to her community. With nearly 20 years of legal experience, she has advocated for community members and partnered with local leaders and law enforcement on complex legal matters that impact everyday life.
Heather brings extensive courtroom experience in both civil and criminal cases and has served as a judge pro tempore across the region. Earlier in her career, she led behavioral health programs for a decade, expanding services for individuals and families facing difficult challenges—an experience that continues to shape her approach to justice.
Recognized as a 2022 Northwest Indiana Most Influential Woman Lawyer, Heather is running for Porter County Superior Court Judge 4 to serve with fairness, consistency, and respect for the law.
Extensive Legal and Municipal Experience
As City Attorney for Hobart and legal counsel for nearby municipalities such as Portage, Heather has partnered with law enforcement, provided guidance on complex legal matters, and collaborated with local leaders to support our region. I bring extensive courtroom experience in both civil and criminal matters and have served as a judge pro tempore across Northwest Indiana, giving me direct insight into the responsibilities of the bench.
Earlier in my career, I spent a decade leading behavioral health programs, expanding services for individuals and families facing significant challenges. That experience continues to shape how I approach cases, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals and mental health considerations.
I have also remained actively engaged in the community and have advocated for victims and families at both the state and federal levels. Throughout my career, I have focused on doing the work the right way—applying the law carefully, treating people fairly, and ensuring that every person who comes before the court is heard.
